
Mangaluru, Oct 11, 2026: Nitte (Deemed to be University) and KS Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) jointly organised ‘Move for Hope 2026’, a breast cancer awareness walkathon, at Mahaveer Circle on Saturday.
The walkathon began at the Nitte Day Care Centre at 6 am and concluded at 7 am, highlighting the importance of regular screening, early detection and timely treatment of breast cancer.


Vijaya Kranthi, Assistant Commissioner of Police (South), Mangaluru City Police, was the chief guest. Vishal Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, presided over the programme. Prof. (Dr.) M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University, and Dr. B Sandeep Rai, Dean of KSHEMA, were the guests of honour.
The event was organised in association with the Departments of Oncology and General Surgery of Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital and KSHEMA. The programme concluded with prize distribution to the winners.
The initiative aimed to encourage community participation in breast cancer awareness and promote regular health check-ups and timely medical consultation.
