Mangaluru, Nov 25, 2021: The 42nd Annual conference of the Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists (IABMSCON 2021) on “Recent trends and advance in Biomedical Sciences- An integrated approach was inaugurated on 25thNovember 2021 at Nitte (Deemed to be University), Deralakatte, Mangalore.

The Organizing Chairman of the conference, Prof. Dr. Praveen Kumar Shetty, welcomed the dignitaries, faculty, participants of the conference and also the Office bearers of IABMS.The president of IABMS, Prof. Dr. Gopalkrishna Pal, whose is also the Dean of JIPMER, Puducherry, commended the efforts of Nitte (DU) on organizing this conference and gave the opening remarks. Dr. Padmini, General Secretary, IABMS, presented the annual report of IABMS and announced the names of the winners of various awards of the organization.

The Chief guest for the function wasLt. (Gen.) Dr. M.D. Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, MAHE, who urged the participants to build partnerships beyond geographical boundaries and to venture into the pioneering fields of multidisciplinary research. He also emphasized that every researcher should not merely be satisfied with a publication in a journal but to take research forward to make a product that is beneficial to the society and mankind. The president of the function, Prof. (Dr.) M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte (DU), reinstated that Biosciences is of top priority among the 47 branches of science and that the younger generation should work towards translational research and aim for excellence in research.

The program also included the release of the conference souvenir, a special issue of the Journal of Biomedicine (Oct-Nov 2021) as a conference proceeding publication and the Workshop manual by the dignitaries.

As a part of the program, Nitte (DU) felicitated four eminent scientists namely,Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Director (Patents & Research), Nitte (DU), Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director (Projects & DST-TEC), Nitte (DU) and Prof. Dr. Jayarama S. Kadandale, Centre for Human Genetics, Bangalore and Dr. Madhubala, Director (DIBER-DRDO) for their outstanding contributions in the field of biomedical research.

The Vice Chancellor of Nitte (DU), Prof. (Dr.) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, The Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya and the Registrar, Prof. Dr. Alka Kulkarni, were present.

Prof. Dr. Suchetha Kumari, KSHEMA, who is an active member of the IABMS and Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER, are the organizing secretaries of the conference.

The conference is being conducted in a hybrid mode and it has received an overwhelming response with more than 700 registrations from India and abroad.
