
Mangaluru, Nov 12, 2025: The Nitte Climate Action Program (NCAP) 2025, a flagship initiative of Nitte (Deemed to be University)’s SDG Cell in collaboration with Dr. M. Ramanna Shetty Memorial English Medium High School, Tapovana, concluded with a grand valedictory function at the Avishkar Auditorium, ABSMIDS, Deralakatte, on November 11.
Dr. Prasanna Belur D, Professor and Dean (Alumni & Corporate Relations), Department of Chemical Engineering, NITK Surathkal, was the Chief Guest, while Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor of Nitte University, presided over the function.
In his address, Dr. Prasanna Belur highlighted the crucial link between scientific education, engineering, and sustainable global development. “The future of climate action hinges on two pillars: technological innovation and responsible leadership,” he said. Encouraging students to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges, he urged them to “be curious, be critical, and learn to apply academic knowledge to solve practical problems.”
In his presidential remarks, Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Moodithaya reaffirmed Nitte University’s commitment to sustainability as a core institutional value. “The Nitte Climate Action Program is not an isolated event; it reflects our University’s foundational commitment to social responsibility and the Sustainable Development Goals,” he stated.
Prizes were awarded to winners of the Model Display Competition, which showcased creative eco-friendly designs and innovative sustainability concepts.
Dr. Suma Ballal, Deputy Registrar and Chief Coordinator of the SDG Cell, welcomed the gathering, and Shashi Kumar Shetty, NSS Coordinator of Nitte University, proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier, a Model Display Competition was held as part of NCAP 2025 on themes including Health and Wellness in Relation to Climate Change, Eco-friendly Environment for a Greener Planet, Nature as Teacher: Learning Sustainability from the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), and Eco-Intelligence: Using AI to Heal the Planet. The exhibition was inaugurated by Ar. Vinod Arhana, Director, Nitte Institute of Architecture, and drew enthusiastic participation from school students who presented innovative models on climate mitigation and sustainability. The event attracted a large turnout from both the public and academic community.
