Addressing the protestors, Premanand Kalmady, environmentalist of Udupi, said the government seems to be very much interested in setting up   a mega thermal plant in Niddodi at a time when the UPCL plant at Padubidri has given untold problems to the locals.  Cautioning that Niddodi  may be rendered barren due to the project, he strongly favoured a discussion on the pros and cons of the project. At the same time he took strong objection to the failure of the authorities to conduct a public hearing before announcing the project.

Yadava Shetty, District Secretary of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha, Rohitaksha, State Vice President of the Sangha, Joachim Koreya, President of Kallamundkur Gram Panchayat, Kiran Manjanbailu, President of Matrabhoomi Samrakshana Trust and others were present.
