Moodbidri, Oct 1, 2013: Well-known consumer activist and  Dean of the Research Department of Gujarat University Dr Ravindranath Shanbhogue has said that the proposed Niddodi ultra mega thermal power project can be shelved any moment, provided our  ruling and opposition parties make up their minds.

Speaking at an awareness meeting on the project organised by the Mathru Bhoomi Samrakshana Samithi at Niddodi Brahmashree Guru Narayana Swami Seva Sangha on September 29, Sunday, he said  the tragedy is that elected representatives elected by us who are now in the ruling party and opposition have still not adopted any  clear-cut stance on this project.

He asked the project authorities to come to Niddodi, interact with people and   answer their queries. This will expose the truth, Shanbogue said. He further added that the state did not face power shortage, but suffered substantial loss of power during transmission. This problem needs to be solved, he added.

Shanbhogue further urged the government to choose barren land to set up such projects instead of a green belt like Niddodi. He also presented a slide show on the drastic consequences of the UPCL and Raichur thermal plants and many other such plants.

Alphonse D’Souza, President of Mathru Bhoomi Samrakshana Samithi, Kiran Manjanabailu, its convenor, Vijaykumar Hegde, Vice President of State Raitha Sangha and several others were present.
