Nicholas Manring reveals tips on obtaining US visas without hassles

Mangalore, Nov 9, 2012 : Speaking about US visas at the meeting hall of KCCI on Nov 7, Wednesday, Nicholas Manring, chief of the consulate services at American Consulate, Chennai, said that the US remains alert for any false documents supplied by US visa applicants. Besides, the American Consulate works in close collaboration with the police department to support legitimate travel to the US.

Further he said that an officer at the interview counter interviews 100 visa applicants per day in 5 hours, with each visa interview lasting 2 – 5 minutes depending on the visa category.

 

Stating that the procedure to obtain US visas has been simplified from September 2012, he said that applicants can now submit their applications online by logging into www.ustraveldoc.com. The fees can be paid through mobile phone, electronic money transfer, or any branch of Axis branch. Later, they have to fix two different times for a visa interview.

Providing tips to obtain US visas without any worries or hassles, he said that the applicant should state clearly reasons for travel. Children below the age of 14 have been exempted from visiting the US Consulate for visa interviews under the interview waiver program (IWP), he added.

He also informed that visas issued before Jan 1, 2008 now require fingerprint data.

India has five US Consulates—the US Embassy in New Delhi, the US Consulate in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad, he said.
