New Udupi Diocese to be established on October 15

Udupi, Sep 15, 2012 : The Diocese of Udupi will be established and Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo will be installed as its first bishop on the grounds of Kallianpur Milagres Cathedral on October 15.

A short reception at 2:00 p.m. will mark the beginning of the historical event. The reception will begin at Kallianpur – Santhekatte Main Junction and will proceed toward Milgres ground, where the Holy Mass will be conducted.

Dr. Salvatore Pennacchio, apostolic nuncio in India, will be the principal prelate and Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo will be the chief celebrant of this mass.     

The guest of honor will be Shri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji of Puthige Mutt; Dr. Salvatore Pennacchio, apostolic nuncio of India; Dr. Bernard Moras, archbishop of Bangalore; and Oscar Fernandes, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

The other guests will be Kota Shrinivas Poojary, district-in-charge minister for Udupi; Jayaprakash Hegde, MP for Udupi – Chikmagalur; Raghupathi Bhat, MLA of Udupi; Dr. M. T. Reju, deputy commissioner for Udupi; Aboobakkar N. B., chairman of KMDC, Bangalore; and Suneetha S. Poojary, president of Kallianpur ZP.

All the guests will be felicitated on the occasion.

The newly established Udupi Diocese will include Udupi, Karkala, and Kundapur. The cathedral for the new Udupi Diocese will be the Church of Our Lady of Miracles.
