Mangalore, June 29: A brand new Maruthi Suzuki Swift fell into the backwater of the Bunder Port today and had to be retrieved with the help of a crane.
he driver had parked the car near the backwater while the car’s owner Abu Hurair of Ullal went to his office close by.
Mr. Hurair was informed by one of the shopkeepers in Bunder at around 1:00 p.m. that his car had fallen into the water. Reportedly, the car had slipped into neutral gear, moved for a short distance, and had fallen into the water when the driver had left it for a brief period.
When the owner reached the spot, the front portion of the car had vanished, but the parking lights were still visible. It had to be pulled out of the water with the help of a crane. All this took at least 1 – 2 hours, and a large number of local people gathered at the spot to watch and to help.
When the car was finally out of the water, it started blowing its own horn much to the consternation of the owner and the delight of the onlookers. However, the car did not suffer any damage.
