New CRZ rule will affect sand removers along the coast - Suvarna

Mangalore, Jan 17, 2011: Dakshina Kannada District Sand Boat Workers Association President Jithendra J Suvarna told reporters at a press meet held at Hotel Woodland on Jan 17, Monday that the government is cheating people who earn their living by removing silt from the sea through its new CRZ rule.

Stating that a number of families will suffer because of this new rule, he said that a number of traditional sand removers work along the coast and that the problem caused to them by this rule will retard the development of the district.

Stating that the government had given concessions for several people during the implementation of various rules, he urged the central and the state governments to provide concession for these people following the implementation of the new CRZ rule. He reminded the government that this will not only benefit sand workers, but will also facilitate the flow of river water to the sea.

Association Vice President Purushottam Mally, General Secretary Nazeer, Treasurer Walter Lobo, Joint Secretary Ravi Paul Ferrao, and others were present during the press meet.
