National-level training programme on aquaculture held in Fisheries College

Mangalore, August 10: The Karnataka Veterinary, Animal, and Fisheries Sciences University in Bidar and the College of Fisheries in Mangalore jointly organized a national training programme titled “Bio Security in Aquaculture Aqua Medicine at Prof. HPC Shetty Hall in Fisheries College today.

Dr. S. Yathiraj, the dean of the veterinary college, inaugurated the event and said that the organization regularly arranges programmes enabling experts to share their knowledge regarding various species of animals. 


Speaking about the training programme, he said that it is a government-sponsored event, which will provide orientation on pharmacology and toxicology by fish heath professionals and teachers from around 15 fisheries colleges in India. 


Dr. K. M. Shankar, the dean of Fisheries College, delivered the welcome address and said that the need to conduct research in pharmacology and toxicology in relation to aquaculture is great because of the loss suffered by the aquaculture industry because of microbial diseases. He urged the ministry of agriculture to regulate the drugs used in aquaculture. 


Dr. James F. Turnbull, professor at the University of Sterling Institute of Aquaculture, was the guest of honor.
