National Konkani dance competition Yaya Indya Mayaya launched officially

Udupi , Nov 12, 2012 : Yaya Indya Mayaya, a national-level Konkani dance competition, was formally launched in Hotel Kidiyoor on Nov 11, Sunday.

The event, which is being jointly organized by Jagotik Konkani Songhotton, Naach Sobhann, Mandd Sobhann, and Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, was launched by Jerry Vincent Dias of Mandovi Builders, president of the Karavali Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Udupi and the Udupi Builders’ Association.

Delivering the inaugural address, he expressed his appreciation of Eric Ozario, gurkar of Mandd Sobhann and convener of the dance competition. Warning Konkani-speakers that their language might vanish if they refuse to speak it at home, he urged people to teach their children Konkani and encourage them to speak it at home.

He also promised to give an opportunity for Naach Sobhann in his new movie.

IFKCA President Louis Lobo wished Mandd Sobhann well and extended his support to the dance competition.


Mr. Ozario then provided details of the competition, stating that all are free to take part provided they dance to a Konkani song.


The contest is being organized in the duet and group and all male and all female and mixed categories. The total prize pool is Rs. 5 lakhs.


The group championship winners will get a prize of Rs. 2 lakhs and the first runner up will get a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. The second runner-up and two winners of consolation prizes will receive cash gifts of as much as Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000, respectively.


The winner of the duet category will get a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. The first and the second runner up will get Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000, respectively. The category includes two consolation prizes of Rs. 5000, each.


Those who wish to register must do so before Dec 31, 2012. The registration fees for the group and duet categories are Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500, respectively.


The highlight of the event was a performance by Naach Sobhann.
