Nasik tomatoes arrive ; prices expected to reduce

Udupi, Nov 25, 2021: Prices of tomatoes are expected to reduce   with  tomatoes from Nasik in Maharashtra arriving in the coastal districts. The growers from Nasik have supplied the tomatoes at much lower rates than the growers from other parts of the state as well as Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. With the arrival of Nasik tomatoes, the prices of the product which had spiralled to Rs 120 is expected to come down to Rs 80- 90.

 

Since the past few days traders here had no other way but to sell tomatoes at Rs 100- 120 per kg as the produce was purchased for higher rates from growers in Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and other places. Untimely rains  is said to be the reason for the rising price of tomatoes.
