Shivamoga, Nov 05, 2014: A CID team led by Pranav Mohanty is in Thirthahalli and has initiated investigations into the case of the suspicious death of Nandita, a class VIII student of the town. The Chief Minister had earlier ordered a CID investigation into the case following pressure from various corners and intense agitations.
Ironically, State Education Minister Kimmane Ratnaker who also happens to be the MLA of Thirthahalli had earlier stated that there was no need for a special probe into the case.
Now, that the CID probe has been ordered, it seems the deceased girl’s family is not happy with it. Her father Krishnappa has said he was strongly in favour of a CBI probe into his daughter’s suspicious death. Even former CM BS Yeddyurappa who was in Thirthahalli felt the CID may not do justice in the case and suspected it may have to work under political pressure.
Though several had alleged that the girl was killed after an attempt to sexually assault her, the post-mortem which is not yet officially out, reportedly states that there had been no sexual assault. Sources also say that the post-mortem report has not mentioned that the girl might have been poisoned. It is also being said that there was a possibility of the girl dying of two heart attacks in quick succession. Sources said she was suffering from low blood pressure when she was admitted to Manipal Hospital.
The ABVP had organised a candle light vigil to pray for the soul of Nandita in several parts of the state on November 4, Tuesday. Sringeri also observed a bundh during the day.
