Nadoja award to be conferred on Dr Veerendra HeggadeDecember 9: Dr. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, has been selected for this year’s Nadoja Award.


In a press meet, Hampi Kannada University Vice-Chancellor A Murigeppa said that five persons have been selected for the Nadoja award, equivalent to D Litt degree, instituted by Hampi Kannada University.


Writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa, veteran playback singer P B Srinivas, Kannada University former vice-chancellor M M Kalburgi and theatre artiste Harijan Padmamma are the other eminent personalities selected by Governor H R Bhardwaj, he added.


The awards are presented to personalities in recognition of their contribution to the propagation of Kannada language, literature, culture and tradition of Karnataka state and also for rendering social service.


Governor H R Bhardwaj will present the awards The during the 19th ‘Nudihabba’ to be held on December 21, Dr Murigeppa added.


Mr. Veerendra Heggade is nationally and internationally known for his contributions in the social, cultural and educational fields. He formed Shri Dharmasthala Majnunatheshwara Dharmothana Trust to protect the originality of sculptures and culturally prominent temples. Mr. Heggade has been instrumental in reviving nearly 125 temples.
