NYF begins with colorful procession depicting Tulunadu culture

Mangalore, Jan 12, 2012: A colorful procession marked the beginning of the formal inauguration ceremony of the 5-day National Youth Festival (NYF), the 17th edition, which is scheduled to be held at a number of venues across the city.

The procession commenced at Nehru Maidan at 3:00 p.m. The young people who participated in the procession showcased their talents and respective cultures, illustrating the theme of “unity in diversity.”

 

Around 68 teams participated in this procession, which featured chende teams from Moodubidri, band from Satya Sai Seva School in Alike, tri-color flags by the students of Alva’s and Swami Vivekananda Institutions, police band from the Karnataka Police, NCC team from Alva’s, and many more. Band teams from St. Gerosa School, Sacred Hearts School, St. Mary’s School, St. Agnes, Ramakrishna College, and Lady Hill High School also formed part of the procession.

Other cultural highlights of this procession were a Koraga dance team of Kinnigoli, Yakshagana teams specializing in both Thenkuthittu and Badagathittu of Karkala, Veerabhadra Kunitha of Tumkur, Aati Kalanja from Durga Team of Keyyur, Kamsale of Mysore, Gombe Balaga of Belthangady, women’s Dollu Kunitha, Pooja Kunitha, Kerala Chande, Goravara Kunitha, Kangeelu Kunitha, Tiger Dance teams, Thase, Shardhula, Maragalu Kunitha, Jaggalike Mela, teams holding colorful umbrellas, and Puranavanthike, to mention just a few.
