Mangaluru, May 21, 2025: Clashes among undertrials in Mangaluru District Prison continued on the second day on Tuesday, with some getting injured and government property worth ₹1 lakh getting damaged.
A press release from city police said that some undertrial prisoners in Barrack ‘A’ assaulted fellow undertrials who were preparing food in the cooking room at 2.15 p.m.
Soon, inmates of Barrack ‘B’ started to scream and tried to break open the iron door of their barrack. They also damaged 10 CCTV cameras installed inside their barrack and pulled out the wires of the cameras. The prisoners also damaged the antenna of the mobile jammer in Barrack ‘B’. The loss of property was estimated at ₹1 lakh.
The injured prisoners were treated at the Government Wenlock Hospital, the release said. However, the number of prisoners injured is not mentioned.
The release added that Barke police registered a case on the incident under Sections 118 (1) and 3 (5) of BNS - 2023 and Section 2 (B) of the KPDLP Act.
