Moodbidri: Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader arrested

Moodbidri, June 27, 2025: Moodbidri police have arrested Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Sumith Raj in connection with a complaint of a bus owner. The complaint had alleged that Sumith Raj had damaged his bus and had also placed a demand for Rs 5 lakhs and collected the same from him.

The case dates back to November 11, 2024 wherein there was a collision between a private bus and a two-wheeler in which two-wheeler riders Sumitra and her daughter Sanvi were injured.

The bus driver was blamed for negligent driving and Hindu Jagarana Vedike leaders led by Sumith Raj and others had staged a protest demanding immediate compensation following which the bus owner had handed over Rs 5 lakhs as compensation within hours after the mishap.

The bus owner had later lodged a complaint regarding this in Moodbidri Police Station.
