Moodbidri: Footbridge collapse during procession injures eight

Moodbidri, Apr 23, 2026: At least eight people were injured after a footbridge collapsed during a religious procession near Takode Barke on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when devotees were carrying the sacred bhandara in a palanquin from Bavadaguttu as part of the Dharmanema rituals, and the footbridge gave way.

The injured include Sunil Shetty of Mukaldi, Maroor, and Lokesh Bhandari, among others.

On learning about the incident, locals rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, and shifted them to a private hospital in Moodbidri. The injured are currently undergoing treatment, sources said.
