Moodbidri, January 16, 2026: On Wednesday night, a person who accidentally fell into a well and got stuck in a tunnel in the Bangale area of Puttige village in the taluk was bravely rescued by the fire department.
Radha Krishna (38), son of Janappa Gowda from Puttige, had accidentally fallen into a well about 30 feet deep on Wednesday night. Due to the impact of the fall, he got trapped inside a tunnel about 20 feet deep within the well, making the rescue operation extremely challenging.
The rescue operation was led by Chandrashekhar, the chief officer of the Karkala fire brigade. The team conducted continuous operations for 2 hours. Firefighters Jai Moolya and Rupaesh descended into the well, while their colleagues Nithyananda and Basavaraj assisted them from above.
Despite the darkness and complexity of the tunnel, the fire brigade successfully lifted Radha Krishna to safety on Thursday morning. Due to a shortage of personnel in the Moodbidri fire brigade, the Karkala team was called for assistance.
Members of the Puttige Gram Panchayat, Jogeri Dinesh Kumar and former Panchayat president Praveen Shetty, also assisted in the rescue operation.
