Monthi Fest Celebrated with Religious Fervour Across Coastal Karnataka

Mangaluru, Sept. 8, 2026: Christians across the coastal region celebrated Monthi Fest, commemorating the birth of the Virgin Mary, with religious fervour on Tuesday.

Also known as the Harvest Festival, Monthi Fest was marked by special Masses, blessing and distribution of the new harvest, processions, floral offerings to Mother Mary, festive messages by priests and exchange of greetings. Sweets and sugarcane were also distributed as part of the celebrations.


Monthi Fest Celebrated with Religious Fervour


Special Masses were held in the morning at several churches in Mangaluru, including Rosario Church, Bondel Church and Urwa Church. The newly harvested grain was blessed and taken in procession.

A traditional vegetarian feast featuring locally grown vegetables, saaru and sweet payasam is an integral part of Monthi Fest celebrations in the homes of coastal Christians.
