Chikkamagaluru, May 5, 2025: Following the bandh call given by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal condemning the Pahalgam attack and murder of Hindutva activist Suhas Shetty, shops and business establishments remained closed in Chikkamagaluru town on Monday.
Shopkeepers have not opened the shops on MG Road, Market Road, IG Road in Chikkamagaluru even after 10 am. However, small shops in layouts have remained open.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in Mudigere, Kottigehara, Koppa, Sringeri, Kalasa, and N R Pura.
However, buses, auto rickshaws are operating normally. Further, government offices and colleges remained open.
Bandh did not evoke any response in Kadur, Ajjampura, and Tarikere taluks. The district administration has warned of strict action for closing the shops forcefully.
As a preventive measure, the police have strengthened security. More than 10 activists who attempted to stage a protest at Hanumanthappa Circle in Chikkamagaluru were detained by the police.
