President Walter Maben told reporters Wednesday that the church leaders belonging to the Karnataka United Churches Forum for Human Rights, West Zone, a form for Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and other Evangelical Protestant Christian churches and institutions, the Komu Souharda Vedike, Karnataka Missions Network, and the Muslim community will participate in this protest rally.

Alleging that atrocities against Christians are on the rise in recent years, he said that 66 attacks on Muslims and 15 attacks on members of the Christian community during the year 2011 proved that the communal elements have become lawless.

Stating that this persecution has led to a feeling of insecurity among the minorities, he said that people are afraid because they do not know when the communal elements will strike next.

He also declared that there is no evidence to support the allegation that minority population is rising because of religious conversion.

The protest meeting, which is scheduled to be held in front of the DC’s office at 4:00 p.m., will be inaugurated by Jason D’Souza, a victim of the Surathkal attack.
