Mangalore, Jan 26: Krishna J Palemar, District-in-Charge Minister, Dakshina Kannada district, launched 10 cars and 30 bikes to be used by the Police Control Room (PCR) for emergency services within the jurisdiction of the Mangalore Police Commissionerate. The inauguration function was held at Police Ground, Pandeshwara on Wednesday, January 26.
Two assistant sub inspectors, four police constables, and drivers have been placed in charge of each of these emergency vehicles.
The vehicles will be stationed in different parts of the city for use in case of emergency calls and should reach people at crime scenes even before the local police officers do and should not only protect victims, but also any evidences of crime. Many such vehicles can be dispatched to sensitive areas in case of emergencies.
PCR vehicles will be run by people friendly police officers. Each of these vehicles is well-equipped with latest wireless technological devices and police officers will be given the required training to operate these devises. Each PCR vehicle will have an ASI/HC, two police constables, and a driver. The officers in charge will be armed with a revolver and other weapons.
In normal situations, these PCR vehicles will be stationed in areas allotted to them or will go on beats along routes allotted to them. The PCR vehicles will immediately speed to spots of crime as soon as they receive the information and handle the situation till the local police arrive on the spot. They are also responsible for moving persons injured in accidents to hospitals.
The PCR vehicles are not meant to perform the tasks of ambulances; however, they can move persons injured in accidents, riots, natural disasters, crimes, and so on immediately to hospitals.
Capt. Ganesh Karnic, Member of Legislative Congress,Yogish Bhat, Deputy speaker, Seemanth Kumar Singh, City police commissioner, M Muthuraya, DCP and SP Dr Subramanyeshwar Rao were present at the inauguration ceremony.
