Minister C P Yogeshwar lays foundation for Bairadi Kere rejuvenation works

Mangaluru, Feb 26, 2021:     State Minister for Environment, Ecology and Tourism C P Yogeshwar has said that the  State government,  was committed to develop tourism  sector in Mangaluru on the lines of Goa.

He  was speaking  after laying the foundation for the Bairadi Kere rejuvenation works   on February 26, Friday under the aegis of the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority and the Karnataka state Pollution Control Board.

The Minister also participated in a sapling planting programme organised in association with Green Tigers, Mangaluru.

On this occasion, the Minister said the Tourism Department would provide Rs 25 lakhs for the rejuvenation of Bairadi Kere.

Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath who presided over the function, said the first phase of Bairadi Kere rejuvenation had commenced when Yogish Bhat was the MLA. Stating  that  the district  had ample scope for temple tourism, he said Mangaluru would   be developed as model city for tourism.

He said the MUDA has plans to develop 30 lakes in Mangaluru in the next five years.

Mayor Diwaker Pandeshwar, Deputy Mayor Vedavathi, MUDA Commissioner Dinesh, Corporators Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Roopashree Poojary, Hemalatha, and others were  present.

Bairadi Kere is being rejuvenated at a cost of Rs 1 crores. The lake area  is spread across 2.50 acres of which 1.3 acre is covered in water. There are plans to  desilt the lake, develop a park nearby apart from walking track and children’s play  area.
