
Mangalore, Sep 24, 2013: State Minister for Youth Services and Fisheries K Abhayachandra Jain has instructed the authorities to immediately take up the developmental works in all fisheries ports of the district.

Presiding over a meeting held at the DC office on September 23, Monday, he also directed officials to ensure that the benefits of the government departments reached the target groups. Pointing out that the Kulai jetty development project has already got the approval of the CentraL Water Power Research Station and the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering For Fisheries, the minister asked the officials to initiate the works and submit a report within one month. As far as Hejamady port development in Kundapur is concerned, the soil has been sent for test and the report is awaited for the works to commence, he informed.
He said the sales tax on the diesel used for mechanized boats in the state have been totally waived and added fishermen were receiving a subsidy of Rs 7 per liter.
MD Prasad, Fisheries Deputy Director informed the meeting that the third phase extension works of the Mangalore Fisheries Port at accost of Rs 60 crore is under progress under the Central Government aided scheme in order to enable more boats to anchor at the port. He said the port at present can accommodate around 2000 boats. He said of the total amount for the third phase extension, a sum of Rs 57.6 cores has already been released.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, Additional DC Dayananda, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni, MLAs JR Lobo, Moidin Bava and others were present.
