Mangalore, July 4, 2011:The annual feast of Our Lady of Miracles was celebrated in Milagres Church on July 3 Sunday. Fr. Francis D’Almeida of St. Aloysius College was the main celebrant of the festive Holy Mass.
A cultural programme, which was held in Milagres Jubilee Hall, also formed part of the event. Prizes were distributed on the occasion to student achievers. Allan C. A. Pereira, the former chairman and managing director of Bank of Maharashtra, was felicitated with shawl, fruits, garland, and citation.
In his address, he expressed concern over the tendency of the youth to leave the country in search of jobs. Predicting that India will become the world’s third largest economy by 2030, he said that an employment bureau and a training centre needs to be floated to guide youth in search of jobs. He also suggested starting a helpline at the parish levels to help youth get some expert advice and career guidance.
A skit called “Gondol” was enacted by the parish members of Milagres.
