Poojary and his wife were not at home when the daughter-in-law ransacked the house. On the night of Nov 24, Saturday, Poojary’s son Kiran, his grandchildren, and his daughter-in-law Vani were at home. On Sunday morning, the family noticed that the house has been burgled.

The Vittal police team, under the leadership of SI Madhava Kudlu, investigated the case and found out that the house was burgled when Kiran had gone out of the house to get help for Vani who had complained of being sick. The cupboards were flung open and clothes thrown all over the floor.

The police team used the dog squad, after which Vani got into a panic and confessed. The stolen jewels were found on a hillock near the house.

When Vani saw the police dogs, the police team, and the fingerprint experts, she lost her cool and confessed to the crime. She apologized and said that she had hidden the ornaments on the hillock. The police found all the 16 sovereigns of gold she had stolen.

Reportedly, Vani was mentally ill for the past 3 months. She had begun shouting in the middle of the night and threatening to kill her own children. Since she showed signs of mental illness on the night of Saturday, her husband Kiran went out to get help.
