Media prevented from covering nomination filing by Sunil Kumar, BJP candidate

Udupi, Feb 26, 2012: Media persons were furious when they were not allowed to cover the process of BJP candidate Sunil Kumar filing nominations in the DC Dr. M. T. Reju’s office on Feb 25 Saturday.


BJP-SunilkumarThe DC excused himself by saying that he had no idea that media persons were allowed to cover the process of candidates filing nominations. He stated that the handbook for returning officers clearly states that overcrowding must be avoided. 


Stating that he had asked one or two reporters to take photos and videos, they refused to agree because it would lead to competition. He said that he has written to the Election Commission about this and is waiting for a response. He would take a decision based on the response, he added.


Sunil Kumar, a BJP candidate for the Udupi – Chikmagalur by polls, later told reporters that he decided to submit his nomination on Saturday as it is an auspicious day for him and that he believes that nominations filed on this day will bring success to the party. 


Mr. Kumar’s wife had accompanied him during the nomination process.
