Manipal, June 27: IGP Western Range Pratap Reddy has confirmed the arrest of two persons namely Yogish(30) and Hariprasad (Harish) 28) in connection with the gang rape of a medical student of Manipal University.
Addressing press persons here on June 27, Thursday, the IGP said the police have gathered information regarding the third accused from the two who have been arrested and have launched a manhunt to nab him.
He said the police will ensure that justice is done to the victim in this case. He confirmed that all the three accused in the case are autorickshaw drivers, while Yogish was a rowdy sheeter. Another accused Hariprasad had once earlier been arrested in a gambling case, the IGP said.
The IGP said he had received a call from Yogish on Thursday at around 10 am saying he knew very well that the police will arrest him and that he will not allow that to happen. As his voice over phone revealed, he had groaned due to the poison he consumed. Using mobile tracker his house was located and he was rushed to the hospital, the IGP informed.

It is said Yogish who was also a taxi driver is undergoing treatment and that his condition was stable.
The IGP said Hariprasad could be arrested on the basis of the information provided by Yogish. All the three accused are unmarried and knew each other, the IGP said.
Sources said the spot where the crime took place, as per the revelations made by Hariprasad was Madaga.
The IGP also thanked the police departments of DK, Uttara Kannada and Chikmagalur for their assistance in tracking down the accused. He said the auto used in the crime, was found in good condition.
On the prize money, the IGP said the police cannot reveal the name of the person who gave the clue, for security reasons, but cannot do anything if the person himself approaches the media.
Pratap Reddy also exuded confidence that the third accused would soon be nabbed.
