Udupi, Sep 21, 2013: : The hearing into the Manipal gang rape case has commenced at the District and Sessions Court here on September 21, Saturday. All the five accused including the three main accused Yogish, Anand and Hariprasad were produced before the court.
The first hearing is held almost three months after the incident which took place on the night of June 20. The next hearing is scheduled for October28.
During the hearing, Judge BM Angadi gave time upto October 28 this year for the prosecution to prove the charges in the charge sheet. Purushottam Poojari, a lawyer from Mangalore is the defense counsel for the five accused.
The three main accused were arrested in sensational developments a week after the gang rape, while the two others namely Balachandra, the brother of Yogish and Harindra, brother of Hariprasad were arrested later, on the charges of destroying evidences.
The charge sheet against all the five was submitted to the court on August 22.
The main accused are lodged in Shimoga jail while the two others are placed in Hiriadka jail itself.
