Manipal: School bus falls into roadside ditch, seven students injured

Manipal, Jul 10, 2026: Seven students were injured after a school bus plunged into a roadside ditch near the Kodange Temple at Saralebettu on Friday morning.

The bus, belonging to Christ English Medium School, Manipal, was carrying students when the driver reportedly lost control while reversing on a curve, causing the vehicle to topple into the nearby ditch.

Around 20 students were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident. Seven of them sustained injuries, and one girl suffered serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital, sources said.

Manipal police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection.

Children Escape Major Tragedy

According to local residents, five to six children usually wait on the right side of the road to board the school bus every day. However, on Thursday, they happened to be standing on the left side of the road. Locals said that had the children been standing at their usual spot, the bus could have overturned onto them, leading to a major tragedy. The children thus had a narrow escape.
