Manipal : 4 arrested for threatening, robbing taxi driver

Udupi, May 17, 2022: Manipal Police have arrested four people who robbed a taxi driver after hiring the taxi saying they have to go to Karwar.

Those arrested are Charan (35) from Ullal, Sharath Poojary (36) from Bantwal, Jayaprasad (43) from Mangaluru and Mohammad Azaruddin (39) from Shirva.

 

The four had hired the car belonging to Sridhar Bhakta(61) on April 27, evening saying they had to to to Karwar. However when the car reached Ankola railway station, the accused threatened the driver and pulled him to the back seat. They robbed him of Rs 3000 cash and watch and  drove back  and stopped the car near an ATM at Anegudda. When Bhakta went to the ATM as directed and returned the accused escaped.

The driver later lodged a complaint at Manipal Police Station.
