Mangaluru, January 29, 2026: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has announced strict penalties for dumping waste on roadsides and in public places as part of its intensified Clean Mangaluru campaign.

Civic officials said improper waste disposal has emerged as a major challenge, with the city currently identified as having around 85 garbage black spots. Several wards continue to report frequent dumping despite earlier measures to curb the problem.

To strengthen enforcement, the MCC has decided to take tougher action against violators. Solar-powered CCTV cameras have been installed at various locations to monitor illegal dumping. These cameras can be relocated as required. However, officials noted that waste has been found dumped even beneath some CCTV units, and dumping continues in areas where beautification work has already been undertaken.

The corporation has also launched awareness campaigns in Tulu, using messages such as “Kajavu paadoDchi anna… kajavu paadoDchi akka” to urge residents to keep the city clean and protect public spaces.

Officials stressed that public cooperation is crucial for the success of the initiative. Complaints have been received regarding irregular waste collection in certain wards. In addition, failure to segregate wet and dry waste has led to sanitation workers leaving behind unsegregated garbage.

Under the revised enforcement measures, anyone caught dumping waste in public areas will be fined between ₹1,500 and ₹25,000.

Residents can also report incidents of illegal dumping by sending photographs to the MCC’s WhatsApp number: 9449007722, officials said.
