Mangaluru, Sep 2, 2026: A serious discrepancy has come to light in the electoral process during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Karnataka, after a living voter was mistakenly marked as deceased in Election Commission records.
Donald Joseph Rego, a 61-year-old resident of Bejai in Mangaluru South Assembly constituency, discovered that his name was missing from the draft electoral roll published on August 24.
Upon checking further, he found that his name had been included in the ‘Dead’ category of the ASDDO list — Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead and Others.
The incident has raised questions about the accuracy of the voter verification process and how a living voter was incorrectly classified as deceased.
