Mangaluru, May 16, 2025: The Dakshina Kannada district administration, in collaboration with the Zilla Panchayat and the Department of Horticulture, has launched a three-day Mango and Jackfruit Mela at Kadri Park, running from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18. The event is themed ‘Direct Sales from Farmers to Consumers’ and aims to connect local farmers directly with buyers.
The mela was inaugurated on Friday by District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and MLC Ivan D’Souza. Twenty approved vendors have been allotted stalls to showcase and sell mangoes, jackfruits, and related products.
Visitors to the fair can explore a wide range of premium, naturally ripened mango varieties, including Alphonso, Badami, Mallika, Rasapuri, Malgova, Sendur, Kalpad, Totapuri, Benganpalli, and Sugar Baby.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “The mango fest in Mangaluru has consistently received overwhelming public support, and this year promises to be even grander. It features an impressive selection of mangoes—ranging from Alphonso and Badami to rare hybrids and international varieties. All fruits are organically grown and sourced directly from farmers in regions like Ramanagara, Srirangapatna, Kolar, Khanakpur, and Magadi. With no middlemen, customers enjoy premium-quality produce at lower prices, while farmers earn fair compensation. It’s a wonderful way for the community to enjoy fresh, authentic mangoes and support local agriculture.”
