Mangaluru, Oct 8, 2026: An autorickshaw driver in Mangaluru has won appreciation for his honesty after returning a bag containing a 48-gram gold necklace worth lakhs of rupees to its owner.

A woman identified as Afzila had purchased the gold necklace from Sultan Gold Shop. While travelling in an autorickshaw, she accidentally left the bag containing the necklace in the vehicle before getting down.

The driver, Basavaraj, later noticed the bag and, without being tempted by the valuable jewellery, took steps to return it to its rightful owner. He safely handed over the 48-gram gold necklace to Afzila.

Afzila expressed her gratitude to Basavaraj for his honesty. His act has drawn appreciation from the public, particularly at a time when the willingness to return lost valuables to their rightful owners is increasingly seen as rare.
