Mangaluru, Sep 29, 2025: A 74-year-old woman sustained injuries after a youth on a motorbike snatched her gold chain worth about ₹3 lakh in broad daylight near Veera Maruti Temple at Akkasaligara Keri, close to the Mulki post office.
The victim, identified as Nalini A. Nayak, a resident near the post office, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The incident occurred shortly after lunch when Nalini stepped out for her routine walk. As she reached the gate, a youth on a bike approached from the Mulki side and inquired about the residence of one Nagesh Rao. After Nalini replied that she was unaware, she continued walking towards the inner road leading to Veera Maruti Temple.
The youth followed her, intercepted near a water tank, and threatened her with a knife demanding the chain. When Nalini resisted by striking his hand with an umbrella, he pushed her aside, forcibly snatched the chain, and sped away.
Nalini rushed back home and alerted the police. CCTV footage later confirmed the youth fleeing towards Udupi along the national highway.
Mulki Town Panchayat president Satish Anchan and member Subhash Shetty visited the scene. Mulki police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
