Mangaluru: Wenlock Hospital gets approval to add 400 beds

Mangaluru, Sep 26, 2026: The Department of Finance has approved a proposal to increase the capacity of the Wenlock District Hospital in Mangaluru by 400 beds.

Under the proposed plan, 200 beds will be added in the first phase and another 200 in the second phase. The additional beds will be made operational by carrying out necessary modifications to the existing building and providing the required equipment and infrastructure. The expansion is expected to further strengthen the hospital’s treatment capacity.

The plan also includes developing advanced treatment facilities in the new building. Along with existing departments such as Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and General Medicine, the hospital plans to strengthen services in Urology, Cardiac Catheterisation Lab, Paediatric Surgery, DRTB, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Nephrology and comprehensive cancer care.

A proposal covering expenditure on medical equipment, staff and infrastructure had been submitted earlier.

The proposal to increase the number of beds at Venlock Hospital was among the decisions taken at the Karnataka Cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru on September 18. The Department of Finance has now given its approval for the expansion.
