Mangaluru: Ullal police foil ATM theft bid, accused caught after Delhi alert

Mangaluru, September 5, 2025: A swift alert from a Delhi-based surveillance system enabled Ullal police to arrest a man caught in the act of attempting to steal cash from an ATM in Kotekaru Beeri late Thursday night.

The accused, identified as Nagappa Keralatti (41) of Kustagi in Koppal district, was apprehended around 3 am while trying to break open the cash box of an SBI ATM.

Police said Nagappa entered the kiosk around 2:30 am and used tools to damage the cash box. His actions triggered an alert in the central monitoring system that tracks ATMs across districts from Delhi.

Following the alert, surveillance staffer Ranjith informed Deepak Amin, in charge of the Beeri ATM, who quickly contacted the emergency helpline 112. Ullal police rushed to the spot and arrested the accused inside the kiosk.
