Mangaluru, Sep 9, 2025: Police have arrested Leeladhar, an accused who had been absconding for nearly 26 years in connection with a communal riot case. Another accused, Chandrahass Keshava Shetty alias Chandra, who had fled to Dubai, was recently detained at Mumbai airport and produced before the court.

The case dates back to December 31, 1998, when communal violence, including incidents of arson, broke out in Haleangady under Mulki police station limits. Both Leeladhar and Chandrahass had gone into hiding since then, evading arrest.

Abscond

Acting on court directions, Mulki police arrested Leeladhar from a rented house in Pachikere village, Moodbidri. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

Police further stated that since both accused had failed to appear before the court despite proclamation orders, separate cases under the BNS have been registered against them and investigation is underway.
