Mangaluru, Sep 23, 2025: Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president Taranath Gatti Kapikad has urged Tulu-speaking people to mention Tulu as their mother tongue in the ongoing social and educational survey (caste-survey) being conducted across the state.
He said accurate data on the Tulu-speaking population can be obtained only if all Tulu speakers—across castes, communities, and religions—mention “Tulu” under Column 15 of the survey form.
The president pointed out that nearly 40 different communities, including Protestant Christians and Jains of the coastal region, are Tulu speakers. He also appealed to Tuluvas settled in Bengaluru and other districts outside the coastal belt to clearly register “Tulu” as their mother tongue in the survey.
