
Mangaluru, Aug 13, 2026: A Tiranga Yatra organised under the leadership of Rashtrabhakthara Vedike, Mangaluru South, was held on Wednesday from Rajaji Park near Kudmul Ranga Rao Purabhavana to Govinda Pai Navabharath Circle in the city.
Thousands of students from various colleges participated in the yatra. The students marched carrying the national flag, including an extra-long Tricolour, as part of the procession.
Speaking at the programme, MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath said many patriots had made sacrifices for the country’s freedom and that it was the responsibility of the people to remember their contributions. He said the Tiranga Yatra was organised to foster greater love, pride and respect for the nation among the youth.
Former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said it was the duty of everyone to remember the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country.
The programme was inaugurated by offering floral tributes to an image of Bharat Mata.
Freedom fighter Mattaru Vithal Kini was felicitated on the occasion, while BJP leader Vikas Puttur delivered the keynote address.
Former Legislative Council member Monappa Bhandary, Dakshina Kannada BJP president Satish Kumar Kumpala, former mayors Premanand Shetty and Sudhir Kumar Kannur, former deputy mayors Poornima and Bhanumathi, former MUDA chairman Ravishankar Mijar, and prominent leaders including Poornima Rao, Shakeela Kava, Ramesh Kandattu and Nandan Mallya were present.
Rashtrabhakthara Vedike convenor Ashwith Kottari welcomed the gathering.
