Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat quarterly KDP meeting reviews health, agriculture, welfare and civic issues

Mangaluru, Sep 3, 2025: The quarterly KDP (Karnataka Development Programme) meeting of Mangaluru taluk was held on Tuesday at the Taluk Panchayat hall under the chairmanship of Dr. Bharath Shetty Y, MLA of Mangaluru City North.

The meeting was attended by Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Mahesh Holl, Mangaluru Tahsildar Ramesh Babu, along with officials from various departments, village administrative officers, and Panchayat Development Officers.

Discussions were held on the following key issues:

Health Department: Effective control and prevention of malaria and dengue, and measures to make Mangaluru free from these diseases.

Ayush Department: Patient admission statistics in department hospitals and the status of ongoing building works.

Horticulture: Creating awareness among farmers about crop insurance, compensation for crop loss, promotion of beekeeping, oilseed and palm cultivation.

Agriculture: Distribution of seeds, paddy cultivation, availability of farm machinery at subsidized rates, promoting crop insurance, and encouraging farmers towards organic farming.

Backward Classes Welfare: Non-availability of hostels despite demand, ensuring timely government grants to private orphanages, reducing reliance on rented hostel buildings by constructing department-owned hostels.

SC Colonies Development: Concern over the lack of funds sanctioned for the constituency.

Animal Husbandry: Progress of livestock vaccination, rabies control measures, stray dog menace, awareness workshops for new dairy farmers.

Forest Department: Conservation programs for sea turtles nesting on the coast, including protecting eggs and safely releasing hatchlings into the sea.

Women & Child Welfare: Recruitment status of vacant posts, children’s enrolment and attendance at Anganwadis, ensuring Anganwadis function in government-owned buildings, and activities of the District Child Protection Unit.

Education: Student admissions to government schools, timely distribution of textbooks, special attention for academically weak students, and remedial measures.

Akshara Dasoha: Quality and quantity of milk, midday meals, eggs, and bananas distributed to school children.

Labour Department: Mobile health check-up services for construction workers at worksites.

KMF (Milk Federation): Slight increase in milk collection this year and measures taken to achieve it.

Rural Drinking Water & Sanitation: Ensuring uninterrupted household water supply under Jal Jeevan Mission by improving coordination between Panchayat Development Officers and water supply officials.

MESCOM: Emphasis on clearing pending electricity bills of Panchayats on time to avoid accumulation of dues and interest charges.
