Mangaluru, Feb 26, 2026: A case of alleged moral policing has once again surfaced in the city after a student was reportedly assaulted while speaking with his female classmate near Gramasangha, close to Babugudde.
According to reports, the two classmates were standing near the railway track adjacent to Gramasangha when the incident took place. The accused, identified as Steven Monteiro and Avil, allegedly abused the student using casteist remarks and physically attacked him.
The incident is said to have occurred on Monday, February 23, when the students of a reputed educational institution were walking and talking near the Babugudde railway track. Steven and Avil allegedly approached them, hurled caste-based abuses, and assaulted the boy. The accused also reportedly threatened the students, claiming they had a “kiss video” and would upload it on Facebook to tarnish their reputation. They allegedly forced the minor classmates to apologise during the assault.
A video of the incident later went viral on social media. Following this, a case has been registered at the Mangaluru South Police Station, and police have launched a search to apprehend the accused. It is further alleged that while Steven assaulted the student, Avil recorded the incident on his mobile phone.
