Mangaluru : Six arrested for IPL betting

Mangaluru, May 04, 2021:      CCB cops and officials of the Economics and Narcotics Crime  wing have arrested six  bookies on the charges of IPL cricket betting.

Those arrested are Vikram of Someshwara Kumpala, Dhanapal Shetty of Krishnapura,  Kamalesh of Rajasthan who presently is  residing in Suratkal, Harish Shetty of Mumbai,  Preethesh alias Preetham of Ashoknagar and Avinash of Urwa.

Informing this to reporters, City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said the accused had opened  accounts in  three banks in the  name of others and were collecting betting amount. The police initially arrested Vikram on April 21 and on the basis of the revelations made by him the rest  of the five accused were arrested. Of the six, Avinash was arrested in Vishakhapatnam.

Police have attached 20 bank accounts and have seized Rs 23 lakhs apart from 10 mobile phones.

The operation was conducted by DCPs Hariram Shanker, Vinay Gaonkar, CCB Inspector Mahesh Prasad, Narcotics Crime  Station SI  Satish and other personnel.
