Mangaluru Aug 26, 2016: District In-charge Minister Ramanath Rai inaugurated Electronic Waste Collection Unit and a Workshop on ’Electronic Waste Management’ at Mangala Hall, Mangalore City Corporation on August 25 Friday. The event was jointly organised by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Mangalore City Corporation, NITK and Besant Evening College Mangaluru.
Speaking on the occasion, Rai said that though people at present are over-dependent on technology, when it comes to E waste, many do not have proper knowledge regarding its management. The E-waste Management Unit aims to handle e-waste, he added.
Awareness need to be created among public in keeping the environment clean by planting saplings in surroundings in order to ensure fresh air, he added.
"Forests need to be conserved. If we save forests, it will be helpful for the coming generations," said Ivan D’Souza, MLC. Stating that e-waste was affecting nature, he said the E-waste collection unit will be placed in City Centre.
Mayor Harinath, MLA Moideen Bava, Deputy Mayor Sumitra and others were present.
