Moodbidri, June 24, 2025: In a heartwarming turn of events, Chandrashekar from Irvailu village, who had lost contact with his family 36 years ago after leaving for Mumbai, has finally returned home and reunited with his aged mother.

Chandrashekar, the eldest of three sons and two daughters of Sankappa and Gopi from Konnepadavu, Madhugirivana in Irvailu, had left for Mumbai in search of work over three decades ago. After just six or seven months of doing odd jobs there, his health began to decline. Suffering from mental health issues, he wandered from place to place and lost all contact with his family.

It was a compassionate Marathi family, led by Balu Kamble, who noticed Chandrashekar’s pitiable condition and took him in. They provided medical treatment, and as his health gradually improved, Chandrashekar found work at a hotel. Meanwhile, his family in Irvailu never gave up searching for him.

A Divine Prophecy Fulfilled

Sometime ago, during a darshan of the village deity (Manthradevathe Daiva), the oracle conveyed to the family that “the eldest son is alive, and the future rituals will be conducted by him.” This message gave hope to the family.

Later, during a Brahmakalasha event held in nearby Kuppettu village, a local resident now living in Mumbai identified Chandrashekar and informed the family. They established contact, and just three days before a major religious ritual on May 29, he returned home. Though still showing some signs of mental health struggles, his condition has vastly improved since returning.

Chandrashekar’s mother, now 80 years old, was overwhelmed with emotion to see her 60-year-old son after such a long gap. “The fact that he’s come back is all that matters,” said his younger brother Prabhakar.

Chandrashekar had studied up to class 3 in his village and later attended evening school for a couple of years in Mumbai. He has never married.

Now back with his family, Chandrashekar expressed his gratitude, saying, “By the grace of the deity and gods, I have been reunited with my family. I plan to return to Mumbai for work for a few more years but will stay in touch and make sure to attend all religious and family events here.”
