Mangaluru, Oct 27, 2026: Mangaluru city police have warned individuals and vigilante groups against intercepting vehicles transporting legally sourced meat, stating that obstructing lawful activities, threatening people or attacking them could attract imprisonment of up to 10 years.

The warning follows an Instagram post by the Bajrang Dal alleging illegal cattle transportation from Talapady to Jokatte and accusing Kankanady police of ignoring the information provided by the group.

Refuting the allegations, police clarified that the vehicle in question was not transporting live cattle for slaughter. Instead, it was carrying meat legally purchased in Kerala to a licensed shop in Mangaluru. The police said they had verified the legality of the consignment.

The police reiterated that they would take action against cow slaughter and illegal cattle transportation, both of which are prohibited under Karnataka law. However, they stressed that the sale and transportation of legally sourced meat are permitted.

“Anyone who attempts to obstruct legally permitted activities, including stopping vehicles, attacking people or intimidating them, is also committing a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison,” the police warned.

Police further disclosed that they had received a complaint alleging an attempt by certain individuals to intercept the meat transport vehicle on Monday morning.

“If the allegations are found to be true, a case will be registered against those involved,” the police said.
