Mangaluru: Police felicitated for outstanding service, 172 officers and staff honored

Mangaluru, Sept 12, 2025: A felicitation program was held at the District Parade Grounds on Friday to honor police officers and staff of the city commissionerate who displayed efficiency and commitment in solving crime cases and performing their duties well over the past three months.

During the event, the Police Commissioner presented appreciation certificates to 32 police officers and awarded certificates and cash prizes to 121 staff members. Nineteen members of the special task force, who played a vital role in maintaining law and order in the city, were also honored. In total, 32 officers and 140 staff members received commendation certificates.

Over the past three months, police have achieved significant progress in handling long-pending cases (LPCs). Among them, two accused involved in a 27-year-old communal clash case under Mulki police limits were traced. Additionally, 52 absconding accused with non-bailable warrants (NBWs) were apprehended. In property theft cases, 39 cases were solved, accused arrested, and stolen property worth around ₹1.05 crore was recovered.

In the crackdown on drug-related crimes, police registered 37 cases against peddlers, arrested 73 accused, and took strict action. Currently, 46 drug peddlers remain in judicial custody. As many as 89 consumption-related cases were registered, leading to the detention of 127 individuals, through whom vital information about peddlers was obtained.

The department also kept strict vigil on social media. Cases were registered against those spreading hate speech, misinformation, and provocative messages, with action taken against 22 accused so far. Investigating officers and assistants were commended for conducting high-quality investigations, ensuring maximum punishment for offenders in court.

Cash rewards and appreciation certificates were distributed under the following categories:

1. Detection of LPC cases – 3 officers and 11 staff

2. Tracing absconding NBW accused – 4 officers and 18 staff

3. Solving property theft cases and recovery – 5 officers and 13 staff

4. Effective work in securing convictions in court – 3 officers and 8 staff

5. Detection of major cases – 9 officers and 31 staff

6. Detection of NDPS (drug) cases – 3 officers and 13 staff

7. Tracing social media offenders spreading provocative content – 11 staff

Contributions to law and order, traffic regulation, and other commendable work – 5 officers and 16 staff

Additionally, 19 personnel of the special task force were honored for their dedicated role in maintaining peace and order in the city.
