Mangaluru: Notorious Kerala thief held for Deralakatte Muthoot Finance robbery attempt

Mangaluru, Aug 21, 2025: Mangaluru police have arrested a notorious thief from Kerala who had attempted a robbery at the Muthoot Finance branch in Deralakatte and later fled.

On March 29, miscreants tried to break into the Muthoot Finance office located in HM Complex, Deralakatte, under the Konaje police station limits. The thieves had cut the siren cable at the main entrance in an attempt to loot the finance company. A case was registered at Konaje police station (Crime No. 42/2025) under Sections 331[40], 305, 62, 13 of the BNS Act.

Earlier, two accused—Murali from Idukki, Kerala, and Arshad from Kanhangad—had already been arrested in connection with the case.

Now, the prime accused, Abdul Latheef alias Latheef (47), who had been absconding, has been arrested. Latheef is also the mastermind behind the earlier Rajadhani Jewellery Shop theft in Kerala, where about 20 kg of gold was stolen, and the Vijaya Bank robbery in Cheravattur, Kerala, where 15.8 kg of gold and ₹2.5 lakh cash were looted.
